MFDA Board Reverses Position on Crematory Proposal
Responds to Member Concerns
Members will recall that last July’s MFDA Update reported the Board of Directors’ initial and conditional support for a proposal to allow funeral homes the ability to own and operate crematories within the state. Since then, members have voiced serious concerns regarding the proposal, including the concern that the proposal would obscure the necessary line between funeral service and body disposition. Taking these views into account, on October 19, the Board decided to reverse its earlier position from initial and conditional support to opposition.
No such legislation regarding this proposal has been introduced.
